Good Evening, Reed Families, this is Paul DeBonis, Principal of Walter Reed Middle School, with your weekly announcements.
Our next ELAC meeting is on Tuesday morning at 8 am in the parent center.
Tuesday evening kicks off our concert season with music by our 8th graders at 6:00 pm in the auditorium. Students who wish to attend concerts as audience members must be accompanied by an adult.
Thursday evening is Prospective Parent Night. This is a great opportunity for fifth grade parents who are considering Reed, to get to know the school. Doors open at 4:30, the music department showcase is at 4:45, a general introduction is at 5:00 followed by breakout sessions where parents can learn about our small learning communities.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. We invite all students and staff to show their support by wearing pink every Wednesday. In addition, our Leadership students will be hosting activities to help raise awareness within our school community. Stop by the new “Pack Shack” in the pavilion to contribute to the cause by purchasing a bracelet or goodie bag.

Reed Middle School Vision:
A community where all students and staff feel good and do great.
Mission:
Our mission is to foster a positive, inclusive, and engaging school culture where students and staff feel safe, supported, and motivated to do their best.
Parents, please remind your students of the following ways to keep themselves safe at school:
- NO Room To Hate – We will continue with Region North Superintendent Dr. David Baca’s effort to foster kindness at Walter Reed Middle School.
- “…words matter…each and every student, educator, and family deserves a welcoming, safe and inclusive school environment that is free of hate speech and hate motivated incidents…together is better.” –Dr. David Baca
- NO Touching
- Avoid unwanted touching of any type, especially in anger. This request also includes fighting, messing around, play fighting, or horse play.
- Remember to THINK before you speak
- T – Is it True?
- H – Is it Helpful?
- I – Is it Inspiring/Important?
- N - Is it Necessary?
- K – is it Kind?
If not, think twice before saying it.
Phone-Free School Day Reminders:
The basics for entering school are as follows:
- Students should power off their phones before they come to the gate
- They open their pouch at an unlock station
- They place their phones, watches, and Airpods in the pouch
- They lock the pouch and store it safely in their backpack for the day.
- Pouches will be unlocked at the end of the day as students exit the campus.
- Students should always keep their pouches locked, even when empty.
If your child will not be bringing a cell phone to school, please complete the No Cell Phone Form
If students are found using their cell phone on campus, the phone will be confiscated and will only be returned to a parent at the end of the school day. Please familiarize yourselves and your students with our cell phone policies which can be found on our website.
Students are regularly using iReady in their homerooms. iReady is a computer-based system that provides lessons tailored to the specific needs of the user. If used with fidelity, all students can expect to grow in their math and reading abilities while developing skills that will lead to increased competency, and improved scores on standardized tests. Please remind your child to bring their fully charged Chromebook to homeroom for iReady use every day.
iReady Homeroom Schedule
