Dress Code Policy

​​​​​​​We dress for success here at Reed Middle School. All students are to comply with the dress code policy.
 

WALTER REED MIDDLE SCHOOL DRESS CODE POLICY

Pants, Shorts, Skirts:

  • Navy blue, khaki, and black, shorts, skirts, skorts, and dresses must extend beyond fingertip length.
  • “Jeggings” are allowed provided they are styled with usable front and back pockets.
  • Blue or black denim is allowed if free of ripped or torn material.
  • Navy blue, black, or khaki shorts of nylon or mesh material are allowed if free of logos.
  • Navy blue, black, or khaki pants are allowed.
  • Pants, shorts, and skirts must be able to remain above the waist if a belt is removed.
  • P.E. shorts and sweatpants are to be worn for P.E. only. They are NOT considered appropriate dress code outside of P.E.
  • Sweatpants / Pajamas are NOT allowed. Pajamas can only be worn during school spirit events and ONLY on days designated as “Pajama Day”.
 
Shirts:
  • Navy blue, black, white, or gray collared shirt with or without a Reed logo is allowed.
  • Any Walter Reed t-shirt (not including the P.E. shirt) is allowed.
  • P.E. shirts are for P.E. only. They are not considered appropriate dress code shirts.
  • Shirts that expose the midriff, the back, are low-cut, or are sleeveless tops (including tank tops, strapless, or spaghetti straps) are NOT allowed.
  • Clothing with profanity, with messages that may be inappropriate or offensive and/or cause a distraction to the instructional program, is NOT allowed.
  • Clothing with alcohol, tobacco, cannabis, or adult content is NOT allowed.
 
Shoes:
  • Proper and safe foot covering is required.
  • “High heels” of any kind are NOT allowed.
  • Open-toed shoes are NOT allowed.
  • Open-back shoes are NOT allowed.
  • Slippers and Crocs are NOT allowed.
 
Hats/Hoods:

Hoods, hats, beanies, and caps are ONLY allowed as protection against the weather outdoors. These items are NOT allowed for fashion or as part of an outfit. All must be removed when a student is indoors and in classrooms

Extraneous:

Bandanas, sunglasses, and/or any insignia that may cause a distraction to the instructional program and/or be considered hazardous to the safety of the student or others on campus are NOT allowed.

Walter Reed Middle School and LAUSD adopts dress code policies for the health, safety, and well-being of all students.

Students will not be disciplined, discriminated against, or otherwise denied rights and privileges available to other students based upon attire.

Parents/Guardians may opt out by contacting the Main Office.

Clothing is available to families who are unable to provide for their students due to financial hardship in the Main Office.
