Individualized Honors Program Application

The Individualized Honors Program also known as IHP is the oldest, continuous program for Highly Gifted Students in LAUSD, which was founded in 1970. This Smaller Learning Community (SLC) is designed for the unique needs of Highly Gifted students and offers challenges not generally offered in an honors level middle school course.

2025-2026 IHP APPLICATION PROCESS

If your child is interested in applying for IHP, you will need to apply for the Individualized Honors Program(IHP) through LAUSD Unified Enrollment - under Unique Education Pathways
  • If this is your child, you will need to apply through LAUSD Unified Enrollment 
  • The Choice application window is scheduled to be open the first week of October, 2024 through  the second week of November 2024. (Check the LAUSD Unified Enrollment website for actual dates). 
  • Click on the Apply Now button, choose "Unique Education Pathways" and choose “Reed MS”.
  • After you submit the application through LAUSD Unified Enrollment, you will receive your confirmation notices from Choices in early December.
 
Once that notice is received from Choices in early December, you will receive an email from Walter Reed Middle School with a link to submit the following IHP admissions supporting documents:
  • Parent questionnaire
  • Choose a IHP assessment date
  • SBAC or other state testing scores
  • Spring 2024 and Fall 2024 report cards
  • Current English and Math teachers’ work email addresses for recommendations
  • Copy of student’s GATE verification (if applicable)
  • Copy of student’s IEP or 504 plan (if applicable)
 
These documents will need to be submitted between early December 2024 with a deadline of January 5, 2025.  
No late submissions will be accepted.
 
  • Students will choose from two available dates to take the mandatory IHP assessment. Assessment dates will be January 9, 2025 at 3:30 pm and January 11, 2025 at 8:00 am. The assessment will take place at Walter Reed Middle School and lasts approximately 2 ½ hours. 
  • January - Assessment Day check-in information will be emailed to applicants by the end of day on January 7, 2025.
  • February - Program eligibility letters will be emailed to all applicants directly from LAUSD Unified Enrollment (please do not call the office to inquire when they will sent out)
  • March -  Selection/ waitlist notification will be sent directly from LAUSD Unified Enrollment (please do not call the office to inquire when they will sent out)
  • April -  deadline for parents to accept/decline offer of admission through the LAUSD Unified Enrollment/Choices portal
  • Beginning in May,  parents will need to complete the enrollment process at Walter Reed Middle School
