School of Advanced Studies Permit

School of Advanced Studies Permit pathway is for students that are identified as gifted and who reside within Los Angeles Unified boundaries but outside school boundaries  [Note: If you live within the Reed enrollment zone, please use the school of residence enrollment steps instead.]

• If this is your child, you will need to apply for our School of Advanced Studies (SAS) through LAUSD Unified Enrollment
• The On-Time Choice application window is scheduled to be open the first week of October, 2024 through  the second week of November 2024. (Check the LAUSD Unified Enrollment website for actual dates). 
• Click on the Apply Now button, choose “School of Advanced Studies” and choose “Reed MS” under first school choice
• Once you apply, the process will go through three phases before receiving a confirmed acceptance.
• When you receive the confirmed acceptance email directly from LAUSD Unified Enrollment, this will be followed by an email from Walter Reed middle school that will contain a link for you to provide your academy preference and enrichment preference.

**Students will need to qualify for SAS based on criteria set by LAUSD. Criteria for SAS can be found HERE. 

NOTE: Every Academy at Reed MS has an SAS program, however, placement will be determined once you have confirmed your acceptance for Walter Reed Middle School.  Once confirmed, you will receive an email from the SLC office with your Smaller Learning Community/ academy options.
